Jessamyn Tournier. Bathroom Sink. October 09th , 2017.
Pedestal sinks have a basin perched atop a long stem or pedestal that rests on the floor. The pedestal conceals the water supply and drain pipes. Because the bowl itself offers little space for items, such as soaps and shaving equipment, compact pedestal sinks are often integrated with cabinets and shelves in half-baths. Their generally graceful appearance makes them a designer’s favorite.
The most common pedestal sink design is the iconic white porcelain pedestal sink. Often found in traditional or retro bathroom designs, this understated design can mesh with virtually any bathroom style.
Consoles are sink basins supported by legs. The space between the legs can be fitted with shelves and bars for hanging towels and wash cloths.
For standalone double sink installations, the sinks may sit on their own separate vanities, adjacent to each other or with buffering space in between. Deciding whether to invest in attached or detached double sinks is usually driven by questions of space and style preference, and in general there’s no particular advantage to either.
